It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Shigeki Aoki, Specially Appointed Board Member of our Society, on March 24, 2026. Professor Aoki was also Dean of the Faculty of Health Data Science and Graduate School,Juntendo University, as well as a Specially Appointed Professor in the Department of Radiology, Juntendo University Faculty of Medicine.

Professor Aoki made outstanding and enduring contributions to the development of our Society, having served as Editor-in-Chief (2011–2018), as Congress President of the 43rd Annual Meeting (2015), and as the 16th President of the Society (2018–2020). As well as his many achievements across the research, educational, and clinical MRI fields,through his warm personality and deep insight he profoundly influenced and inspired many members of our community. We are sincerely grateful for his dedication and contributions during his lifetime.

 

We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and pray for his peaceful repose.
